Botswana: While a majority of Tswana call themselves Christian, many are caught up in a life of immorality, drunkeness, and family breakdown. Up to 35% of the population is HIV positive, which is causing a serious social and economic crisis. Pray for the young people growing up today to find a new way of living through a solid relationship with Jesus. Pray that the moral conditions causing so much heartache will be reversed and that the Christians of Botswana will renew their commitment to God and their vision for evangelism in their own country.

Liebenzell missionaries work with mission aviation organizations in Botwana. Pray for protection during flights and for the families.

Burundi: Reconciliation and healing between Tutsi and Hutu people continues even a decade after the atrocities that took place in Rwanda. Church leaders have been instrumental in opposing ethnic hatred and retaliation. In spite of the suffering, Evangelical Christians have continued to grow. Pray for the witness of believers and for strong, well trained godly leaders who can minister in the churches and at Bible schools. The literacy rate is only at 19%. Pray for more programs and more workers to teach the people how to read.

Liebenzell missionaries work in developing and teaching Theological Education by Extension courses and at a Bible school, at a medical clinic in the Shombo region, and in ministry to street children and widows. For more information, read our update.

Kenya: This country continues to play a key role in Christian ministry in Africa and around the world. The Kenyan Church has a strong vision of being a part of Jesus' Great Commission. Pray for their continued desire to bring God's Love to the unreached people in their sphere of influence. About 14% of the Kenyan population is infected with HIV. Pray that the Church will recognize the need to deal with this disease openly and with compassion and grace toward those infected and those orphaned because of AIDS. Pray that Kenyan believers who are living in the midst of the growing Muslim population will be given strength, humility, and boldness to share that God is Love and He died for them.

Liebenzell missionaries in Kenya are working with a mission aviation organization - sending much needed supplies and support to the suffering Sudanese people. Pray for their safety and that they can shine the Light of Hope in the midst of so much despair.

Malawi:  Almost every area of society has been exposed to the Gospel with local revivals and rapid Evangelical growth bearing fruit. Over half of the population consider themselves Christian, even though many do not know what the Bible says. Pray that those who have been reached will be firmly rooted in Christ. There is also a growing number of people turning to Islam. Pray that those who are tempted to convert to Islam with offers of aid in times of poverty and famine will be strong and that the much needed aid would be offered from other - no-strings-attached-sources. AIDS has cut the life expectancy to 43 years with about 16% of those 14 to 49 being infected with HIV. Pray that the Church will equip believers to face the disease with effective ministry. Pray for the many children who have been orphaned and for the ministries that are developing to help them.

Liebenzell missionaries are involved in ministering to AIDS orphans and those affected by HIV, teaching church leaders and their wives at the Chisomo Training Center, and in women's and youth ministry.

Niger:

Liebenzell missionaries are involved in medical ministry at the clinic in Galmi.

Nigeria: Over the past three decades, millions have turned to Christ. In spite of this, international scams, crime, and drug running continue to thrive in Nigeria. In the northern parts of the country, Christians are still recovering from persecution that took place in the 1990s when hundreds of churches were destroyed and believers killed. Pray that the country will continue to see spiritual growth, political stability, and restoration.

Liebenzell missionaries are involved at the Ministry of Mercy - a place of refuge for orphans, the elderly, the handicapped, and others who need their help.

Tanzania:  The Holy Spirit has been moving in many denominations across the country with the result that believers are reaching out with the Good News with boldness of faith. Pray that those lost in a loveless religion will know the awesome truth of God's great Love for all of us. While funding for Bible schools is limited, training up leaders for the church is vital. Pray for more Bible school facilities and for an increase of funds for this purpose. Pray that national believers who are gifted in writing will use that gift to write much needed Christian literature for the increasingly literate population.

Zambia:  While 75% of Zambians consider themselves Christians, the influence of Animism is still quite strong. Economic crisis, poverty, and the AIDS pandemic are unrelenting problems for the nation. Pray that a true African expression of Christian lifestyle and theology will develop and that the church will grow strong Biblical roots. The opportunity for foreign mission workers is vast with areas for service in Bible teaching, medical aid, and skills and development training. Pray that missionaries will humbly and graciously meet the challenges of helping the Zambian church in its growth to maturity.

Liebenzell missionaries serve in Zambia in evangelization and church planting, theological training, literature ministry, ministry to children, youth, and women, medical ministry at the clinic in Mungwi and planning for a clinic in Nabwalya, and in ministry to people with HIV and those who suffer because of AIDS.
