Bruce Family Return to Rio Verde with a Hearty Welcome from the Awa |
July 11th! It was our first full day back at our mountain home, and our friends had a big party in honor of our return. They butchered one of the biggest pigs I have ever seen up here, and another small one just to make sure there was enough meat to go around! People began trickling in, until we were almost 100. While a few of the ladies worked hard cooking large pots of meat, plantains, yucca, and rice, the rest of the people gathered on our porch for a Sunday worship service. I was blessed to hear Sandra and Gilberto sing a new translation of a Spanish praise song that has always been a favorite of mine. Both Paulino and Milton shared and urged their many unsaved family members who had come for the big pig feed to listen to the Word of God. Then Doug shared a gospel message from the Word. It was a real blessing to be among our friends again.

Liebenzell Mission International Pledges Help in Kyrgyzstan |
Liebenzell Mission is participating in the reconstruction efforts among people affected by the riots in Kyrgyzstan. As the Director of Liebenzell Mission International, Martin Auch, announced on Wednesday, the aim is to help people with clothing and food, as well as money for the reissuing of destroyed documents.
People in the south of this central Asian country are especially affected. In June, excessive riots broke out there between Kyrgyz people and the Uzbek minority. Hundreds of people lost their lives or were injured; highest estimates speak of more than 2,000 dead. The situation is especially dramatic for members of the Uzbek minority, since they were not being protected by the local security authorities. Tens of thousands saw themselves forced to flee to the neighbouring country of Uzbekistan. While those in refugee camps are being taken care of by international aid organizations, most of them are facing ruin upon their return to their former homes in Kyrgyzstan.
In the city of Osch, the centre of the riots, it is mostly the Uzbek quarters that have been destroyed. Here, the people are to receive help without the bureaucracy. Martin Auch assures us, "Since we know the local coworkers personally, we can guarantee that our aid will get to the people who so urgently need it." Liebenzell mission especially hopes to look after families with young children. During the riots, many children in this city were traumatized by what they witnessed. The mission workers in the city report, " Many of them are still traumatized, can not sleep well for fear, and hear shooting and the screaming of people."
For the long term, the Mission also wants to be involved in the reconciliation efforts between the Kyrgyz and Uzbek peoples. Liebenzell Mission is asking for donations for the people affected by the riots in Kyrgyzstan. If you would like to give to this Liebenzell International effort, please send your donation to Liebenzell Mission of Canada with a note indicating your support.

God honours His faithful servant in France |
From France the Renz family share about a faithful and admirable woman who works with them in the congregation. Every year she delivers innumerable evangelistic calendars in their village of Mortange and the surrounding region. They write, “We hear over and over from people who have received the calendar and who know her asking for prayer in their circumstances. It is hard to believe, but this dear lady is already 88 years old! It is amazing and wonderful to realize that God will continue to bless and use people into their elder years, like this woman who at this age is still doing missionary work in her village.”
